13mar6:00 pmPresentation on the Sun Metals Zinc Refinery

Event Details

The Sun Metals plant was established in 1996, by Korea Zinc Company Limited, to refine and export zinc using the electrolytic process.

Located 15 km south of the city of Townsville, Queensland, the plant sources zinc concentrates from Australia, Alaska, and South America, and exports the finished products worldwide.

The plant is a large user of electricity and about 20% of its requirements are sourced from a dedicated 125 MW solar farm with over a million PV solar panels.

In December 2018, Sun Metals announced a $300 million expansion to the refinery to increase production from 225,000 tons to 270,000 tons per annum.

We are pleased to welcome Matt Ferns from Sun Metals who will give a presentation on the activities and operations of the plant and its energy supply.

Come along and hear how Sun Metals is tackling some of the challenges to industry in Australia.
