Event Details

21st June 2023: Die Casting Dross – Strategies to Reduce and Recycle

All non-ferrous casting operations produce a percentage of metal dross, which must be removed from the alloy to avoid it becoming entrained in the casting. In the past, it was easy enough to contact the local scrap dealer and have this dross taken away.

In today’s world, this is not acceptable. The plant which produces the dross, is fully responsible for all aspects of this material. The management and staff at the plant, are required to actively work to reduce and recycle this dross, and dispose of any residues, in a safe and approved manner.

In most plants, the volume of dross can be massively reduced.  However, to do so, the staff in the plant, must understand the issues, and be taught what to do. Similarly, management must be vigilant to ensure it is continually implemented.

As well as this, each state in Australia has its own set of regulations on how dross must be stored, transported and recycled.

This presentation will be of interest to any Die Casting plant or Foundry, which melts and casts non-ferrous alloys.

Come along and learn how your plant can greatly reduce its volume of dross, and recycle the rest responsibly.
